Office on Violence Against Women Tribal Consultation

July 26, 2019

The Violence Against Women Act requires the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) to hold an annual consultation with Indian tribal governments on violence against AI/AN women. The purpose of the consultation is to solicit recommendations from tribal government leaders on three topic areas:

1. Administering grant funds appropriated for tribal governments and programs created to benefit tribal governments by the original Violence Against Women Act and subsequent legislation;

2. Enhancing the safety of Indian women from domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking; and

3. Strengthening the Federal response to crimes of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

OVW looks forward to receiving your important testimony and working with you to end violence in our tribal communities.
